Every child deserves to be heard

My passion for this work is deeply personal. I was first inspired to become a speech-language pathologist when my grandmother was in a nursing home and became unable to communicate. Watching someone I loved struggle to express her needs, thoughts, and feelings showed me how essential communication is to dignity, connection, and quality of life.

That experience became the lens I still use every day. What my grandmother lost late in life, children are just beginning to build — and the earlier someone helps them find the words, the more of their life those words open up. So I took that same promise, that no one should go unheard, and pointed it at the very start of the story instead of the end of it.

Thirty years in schools showed me exactly where those words matter: joining classroom discussions, making friends, learning to read and write, and advocating for themselves. It also showed me that families needed more flexible access to quality therapy and a therapist who takes the time to truly understand their child — which is why My Speech Corner is fully remote, meeting kids in the comfort of their own home.

That's why I created My Speech Corner: a warm, supportive space where children feel comfortable taking risks, asking questions, and celebrating progress. Nothing is more rewarding than watching a child gain confidence, find their voice, and realize they're capable of things they once thought were out of reach.
